An Introduction to Greenworks Training Academy

David Thomas

As part of our delving into Green Deal training, here's our introduction to Greenworks.

Greenworks Training Academy was set up in 2011 in anticipation of the country needing large numbers of installers, and has grown to become one of the UK's best recognised authorities and market experts in sustainable building products and solutions.

“With rising fuel costs and government legislation, we gelt it was important to expand our knowledge of the renewable energy markets… “The Greenworks Training Academy allowed us to learn about a range of renewable technologies, and specifically solar PV. We completed the MCS training and now, thanks to the Academy’s hands-on and classroom-based courses, we are able to install solar PV and allow our customers to take advantage of the government’s feed-in tariff.” - Ian Logan & Emma Slater, Ark Construction

Two reasons why Britain needs practical installers:

1. The Climate Change Act requires the UK to reduce its carbon emissions by 34% by 2020.

2. The conversation around energy efficiency is growing in volume. Energy prices are rising at a rate of 6-8% per year, and the Green Deal is raising awareness about how people can save money and improve their quality of life in a few simple ways. Since opening, Greenworks has hosted over 47,000 training hours, delivered through specialist training companies at its 15,000 sq. ft. academy in Birmingham.

Greenworks training courses

Courses can last from one day introductory sessions to a week-long course with written and practical exercises. Practical exercises can take place in simulated environments, such as the Academy’s training roofs, or its purpose-built underfloor heating training centre.

The courses include:

MCS training - mandatory for installing solar PV panels and other renewables,

Green Deal accreditation - required for playing any practical role in the Green Deal,

PAS:2030 - required for much insulation work,

and dozens more, covering a broad range of energy efficiency and renewables.

The Greenworks Learning Gateway is available for free to Jewson, Graham, Minster, and Gibbs & Dandy account holders. The Learning Gateway is designed to help develop skills, understand legislation and market your business. There are over 100 hours of 40-minute tutorials, with more being added to meet demand. These don’t result in formal accreditation, but are high quality and totally free to account holders.

“The Greenworks Training Academy is invaluable to manufacturers as it is an excellent outlet to showcase our product range and their applications. It is a great venue for seminars and for the training of individuals, with equipment installed or on display with the purpose of giving them a greater understanding of renewable technologies… “Greenworks representatives are extremely knowledgeable in regards to government legislation and incentives such as the Renewable Heat Incentive and Feed-in Tariffs.” - Neil Hope, Nibe
